Shiatsu

Shiatsu, a Japanese word meaning "finger pressure", is a hands-on massage technique used both as a compliment to conventional medicine and as a preventative / alternative therapy.

Practiced for centuries in Japan as a traditional healing art, Shiatsu is used to treat chronic pain and ailments, while promoting relaxation and overall well-being. It enhances the body’s natural healing ability and can prevent the progression of disease.

Shiatsu proposes that our vital energy, known as "Chi" (or "Ki") moves through the body along well defined passageways called meridians. Balance of the meridians is considered to be essential for health and vitality.

By applying rhythmic pressure (using fingers, hands, elbows and even knees) on specific points of the meridians for three to ten seconds at a time, Shiatsu massage is meant to alleviate blockages within the body and promote the natural flow of energy.

When a person’s vital energy stops flowing freely, many symptoms of ill health may develop. Shiatsu has been found exceptionally effective for stress-reduction, reducing fatigue and alleviating a wide spectrum of symptoms such as: back pain, shoulder & neck problems, headaches, constipation or other digestive conditions, insomnia etc.
